2 GO FORTH AND SET THE WORLD ON FIRE –SAINT IGNATIUS At Loyola Press, our mission is based on the spirit of St. Ignatius, who points us to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In response to this calling, we create resources that facilitate transformative experiences of God so families and individuals of all ages can lead purposeful lives with and for others. This is accomplished with the latest in educational research and the never-ending rigor of striving for perfection. With over 100 years of experience, we understand the power of the written word, of image, and of media in nurturing understanding and engagement. We recognize the impact of language and culture to meet the unique needs of the individuals Christ wants us to reach and the communities he wants us to grow. We know the journey is long. This is why we enter it with purpose and passion. We know it can be hard, but we know we are not alone. Let’s walk this journey together. A Pilgrim’s Blessing May the Lord bless and keep you. May his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; May the Lord look kindly upon you and grant you peace. May he enlighten the eyes of your heart, so that you may understand the hope to which he calls you, and the treasure that awaits you. May he help you to overcome all obstacles in his Way and through life, and may he accept you to his loving service. Amen
3 TO ORDER: 800-621-1008 | customerservice@loyolapress.com | store.loyolapress.com Let’s Walk Together In recent years I have led several Ignatian pilgrimages following in the footsteps of Saint Ignatius throughout Spain and Rome. Every experience has been unique in its challenges and blessings, but each has offered exactly what I needed at that moment in my life. Recently, I was reminded about the importance of entering into a pilgrimage with a particular mindset, one of an open mind and heart. And upon return, pilgrims are reminded that our very lives are to be one of pilgrimage, especially in our professional lives as we seek to educate and inspire children and those who care for them. Overall school enrollment has increased for the first time in decades. Parish life is thriving in diversity of language and cultures. We know there are also many challenges, but my team and I at Loyola Press could not be more proud to walk with you on this journey of discovery. We are humbled to serve you with the resources necessary to make the most of our path forward—meeting families, children, young adults, teachers, catechists, and leaders where they are, in the language they understand and the delivery format they prefer. We are grateful for your trust and accompaniment. May God bless you and your community of faith as we welcome and serve together. 8 TRENDING TOPICS: EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL Rekindle your relationship with Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. In our Church and in our world right now, his presence is a life-giving truth that can bring healing and unity. In 2021, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops initiated a three-year Eucharistic Revival to encounter the truth of Christ present in the Eucharist. The plan allows time for encounter, discernment, and what they have called a “grassroots response” from dioceses, parishes, and the lay faithful. As stated on the official website for the Revival, “It takes time to kindle a living, loving relationship—and a relationship with Jesus Christ is no exception.” The diocesan year emphasizes efforts to help Catholics focus on what the Church teaches about the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. The year of parish revival will focus on inviting Catholics to a vibrant liturgical life through the celebration of the Mass, Eucharistic adoration, missions, and preaching. This phase will end with an historic event, a National Eucharistic Congress to be held in Indianapolis, where more than 80,000 Catholics will gather to reconsecrate themselves to Jesus in the Eucharist. The impact of this return to the source and summit of our faith will be immense. That’s why the final phase of the Revival is called the Year of Going Out on Mission. When Catholics are transformed by a relationship with Christ in the Eucharist, they will be emboldened and empowered to share the Good News of the Gospel. Let us pray fervently for the success of the Eucharistic Revival and for the transformation of our Church and the world. W1633 www.GrowingwithGod.com Love Will Steer Me True (Loyola Press) by Jane Knuth, Ellen Knuth As my children become adults, my role is changing. It is transforming slowly into a pause to watch God work on my daughters’ faith, instead of anxiously trying to shape it myself. This isn’t obedience. It is another way to practice my religion. This feels something like that way of life Jesus hints at when he talks about the Holy Spirit. Parent to Parent God looked at everything he had made, and found it very good. Genesis: 1:31 Ref lection How wonderful to be reminded that God is at the heart of all creation, and that it is good! Too often we view the world, and ourselves, with a critical eye. This Scripture refocuses us. By using the gifts of faith and reason, we reflect on God’s goodness. Through the lens of our Catholic faith, we explore God’s creation and seek to experience in it the fullness of life. When we investigate the natural world we are led closer to God, the Creator of all things. Questions How often do I reflect on God’s goodness in creation? In what ways do my experiences in the world bring me closer to God? How do I recognize God’s love and goodness in myself and others? Prayer Speak to God, using the words of this prayer or your own. Creator God, thank you for giving me a world filled with your goodness. Help me to care for it responsibly. LESSON 1 God Creates Us · Parent Guide www.GrowingwithGod.com · 2 Lead Your Child to Grow with God: Spiritually, Socially, and Physically Spiritual Make a reading corner in your home. Display a Bible and include a few books and magazines by Catholic authors and publishers. (These may be available to borrow from your parish.) Engage your child in discussions about articles or stories to encourage a habit of daily reading and prayerful reflection. Social Use scientific discoveries or technology breakthroughs as a springboard for discussions about making choices. Consider how using these tools might challenge our beliefs or cause temptations. Help your child see that an educated conscience guides us in discerning right from wrong and knowing what God wants us to do in each situation. Physical Invite your child on a walk around your neighborhood, to a local park or, if possible, out in nature. Try scheduling the outings at different times of day. Point out what you notice about your environment, such as the weather, the color of the sky, or any animals and insects. Share with your child how these parts of God’s creation make you feel and encourage your child to do the same. © All rights reserved. W1633 www.GrowingwithGod.com GRADE 7 Finding God in Science and Technology Advancements in science and technology are reshaping our daily lives. While these changes provide uniqu opportunities, they can also present parenting challenges. You may find yourself wondering: How do I talk to my child about God in relation to science? How can I help my child navigate new and complicated choices? The Church teaches us that faith and science support each other. God instills in us the desire to know him and a mind to investigate and understand the world he creates. We can come to know God more deeply by exploring the world he creates. Science can allow us to see the glory and mystery of God who is at the very heart of all things. Call your child’s attention to things you notice every day in nature, the technology you use, and scientific discoveries pointing out how you recognize the hand of God in each. Remind your child that the innovations of the human mind are made possible by a generous and loving God. Help your child be mindful of using these innovations in healthy and virtuous ways that are in accordance with Catholic culture, identity, and Tradition. You play a big part in helping form your child’s conscience. Developing an educated conscience gives us that inner “voice” to know right from wrong. Pray together, read Scripture, and regularly receive the sacraments. These practices help strengthen our relationship with God and better know what God wants us to do. Though faith is above reason, there can never be any real discrepancy between faith and reason. Since the same God who reveals mysteries and infuses faith has bestowed on the human mind, God cannot deny himself nor can truth ever contradict truth.
